I'm interested in starting to make rc model boats and
was wondering if anyone could help me with some info about a
good starter project or perhaps a good beginners book I could
use to get going with?
There are several but the best advice I could provide would be to
post this question in the
rec.models.rc.water newsgroup, where there are a bunch of
RC boat guys.

I can suggest several sources but first a couple of questions:
- What sort of subject matter interests you? Tugs, Warships,
Ocean Liners, Race boats, etc.
- What sort of price range can you afford?
- How long do you want to spend building the project?
- What is your level of experience in other modeling areas?
If you can answer these I will try to steer you in the best direction
