WHAT IS SHADOWLAND?
Shadowland was conceived as something halfway between an E-Zine and a personal website,
a place to feature art, stories, and anything related to various subjects
including (but not limited to) the supernatural, the occult, erotica, horror,
dark fantasy, and the dark side of history.
Ever since I was a child,
I was attracted to the dark side of things. Old black and white horror movies,
the writings of authors like Ray Bradbury, Stephen King and H.P. Lovecraft...heck,
we even had records (for those of you who were still in diapers when Ronald Reagan was president, a "record"
is a large black vinyl disc which once performed the same duty that a compact
disc does today) of ghost stories and sound effects which we would listen to, just so my friends
and I could scare ourselves stupid. It didn't matter if it was an episode of
the old show "Tales from the Dark Side" (for those of you who were in diapers when Reagan was president, "Tales from the
Dark Side" was.....oh, skip it) or if it was a book of ghost stories from the school library, or some newly released
movie that was guaranteed to give me nightmares for a week, even if I enjoyed
it (my parents took me to see "Jaws" when I was seven years old...that should tell you
something)...if it was dark, it was right up my alley.
Even as I stumbled my way
into adulthood, my fascination with the dark side of things remained, and flourished, albeit with a slightly more refined aesthetic sense. I also discovered the sexuality inherent in so much of what is deemed "dark", particularly in the field of entertainment,
and I began to discern the subtle connections which can often be found between the two.
There are an incredible amount of sites on the Internet which are devoted to
all the subjects I have mentioned, and many of those sites are excellent. Consider
"Shadowland" to be my (and others') contribution to the wonderfully widespread
fascination with the dark and sensual side of life that so many of us share.
Here's a description of what you'll find in Shadowland:
