Inseminations usually are done vaginally, with a second insemination being done one or two days later. If for any reason the stud's semen is compromised, a surgical insemination can be done. Proper timing is very important. Please see our page on Breeding Management
Inseminations can be done vaginally, trans-cervically or by surgical insemination. Surgical inseminations are the most successful. Vaginal inseminations require more semen and therefore may not be as cost efficient. Transcervical inseminations do not work on all bitches. Timing and correct thaw procedure are both critical for frozen semen inseminations. For more information on timing, please see our page on Breeding Management
Semen is surgically deposited into the lumen of the uterine body or directly into the horns. This done through a small incision in the abdomen. We work with two local veterinarians for surgical inseminations. At the proper time, we transport all of our thawing equipment to the veterinarian's office and while he is making the first incision into the bitch's abdomen we are thawing the semen. This way the crticial process of thawing the semen is done with expert percision and it leaves the surgeon free to focus his/her attention on the bitch. and there is no loss of time between thaw and insemination.
