Hi! My name is Ruth Anne, and I would like to welcome you to my homestate, North Carolina! Aren't these cardinals beautiful? They are our official state bird. Our official state flower is the flowering dogwood. North Carolina is known as the "variety vacation land". My hometown, Greensboro is located in the piedmont area (central portion) of the state. I can travel to the beach or the mountains by car in just a few hours.

          A Little North Carolina Trivia

Charles Kuralt was a native of North Carolina. His journalistic way of keeping America in touch with those who lived off the beaten path, and allowing us to see the beauty of our country from another perspective made him a source of pride for North Carolinians. We miss him.

Another North Carolina journalist was Edward R. Murrow. See It Now, Person To Person and CBS Reports were only a few of his contributions to the television industry.

Famous short story writer, William Sidney Porter (O.Henry) was born in North Carolina.

Did you know that the Home Furnishings Capital of the World is in North Carolina? Yes! High Point, Thomasville Hickory and Lexington are home to most of the leading furniture manufacturers in the world. Twice each year (spring and fall), the International Home Furnishings Market takes place in High Point, and brings about 70,000 visitors to the area. After the market, the general public can usually obtain some good buys on market samples.

North Carolina is also the birthplace of the famous Krispy Kreme Donuts! Visit one of their stores, and watch the donuts being made. The aroma is mouth watering! People come from far and wide to taste these yummy creations!

Cheerwine soft drinks were "born" here in North Carolina! Funny Story: When my son was in Navy bootcamp out in California, I sent him a "care package" containing a six-pack of Cheerwine and some homemade goodies from back home. He almost got in trouble with his commanding officers for this because they actually thought I had sent him an alcoholic beverage! :-)

Another popular softdrink, Pepsi, was born in New Bern, North Carolina. Caleb Bradham, a New Bern pharmacist, developed an elixir to aid in digestion. This elixir became known as Pepsi-Cola in 1898. It seems that the Pepsi generation is 100 years old, now!
