How to Make a Mountain
(Click on any picture for an enlarged view.)

First the track was layed and tested.

Next a framework was made by glueing
cardboard strips to an outline (black) on top
and the table on the bottom.

The frame was then covered with paper
to form the final shape.

Squares of paper towel soaked in plaster
of paris were layed over the paper surface.
Tunnel portals were added at this point.

The surface was painted a light brown,
and powdered green sponge rubber was
sprinkled on the wet paint.

Trees and bushes were added, then a mural
photograph was glued to a backboard to
cover the garage door and provide distance
to the background. Voila!  A mountain.
