Abbrs. that just might cross your path

Everyplace you go you see jargons and abbreviations. They distinguish one place (the insiders) from everyplace else (the outsiders). E.g. (for example), on the internet, you'll often come across BTWs and IMHOs in electronic mails and newgroup postings. BTW stands for By The Way and IMHO is short for In My Humble Opinion.

Some of the commonly used ones are:

plus a whole lot more than you probably wanted to know --
. . . . . . Dictionary of Internet Chatter's Jargon
. . . . . . . . . . . . Acronyms and Computer Jargon
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Net Abuse Jargon File

Peripheral Notes --

to emphasize words and phrases you can use the asterisk (*) in what i like to call "pungentations" -- like this --

. . . . . She beat me up with her well-chosen words. Now *that's* sexy!

Pungentations in text take the place of "bold" as in the above, italics and capital letters.

Italics like this: ITALICS are not always possible in email and newsgroups, so people compensate by using the underline key ( _ ) like this --

. . . . . She beat me up with her well-chosen words. Now _that's_ sexy!

and you can use capitals (tactfully and sparingly) to emphasize, in this way --

. . . . . She beat me up with her well-chosen words. Now THAT'S sexy!

I suggested "sparingly" because using ALL CAPS is the equivalent of YELLING and HOLLERING in UseNet *and* EMail.
