This looks like an interesting old item. Does anyone know its story?
It was given out 1897-98 by a German sea captain named W. Bade, for Spitsbergen in Norway. It exists in 3 different types: 1. 10 (pf?) Blue, plate 1; 2. 10 (pf?) Dark blue plate 2 (1898); 3. 20 (pf?) Carmine. Plate 2 has a small line or point between polar and post. Source: "Norges byposter og annen norsk lokalpost" - Carl A. Phil 1963 (A book in Norwegian). This guy also issued a very nice label with a skier and dog, 1897 (Arctic Post). [Thorbjorn Wikstrom]
Inscription on a stamp or label issued by Capt. W. Bade for use on mail carried on his Arctic expedition of 1897. The design showed a walrus on an ice floe with the rising sun in the background. The value appeared as 10 (possibly ore) and the stamp is printed in blue in varying shades. [Clipping from Fabio Vaccarezza]
