Unidentified #149

149. Ukraine Handstamped Label

This label was on the back of an "Expres" letter sent from Kiev to Memphis in 1994. (The front also has a handstamped "999" impression.) So is this label a "pair" of stamps? Were they handstamped on gummed tape as needed? Do the ones on the back mean something different (as opposed to just adding a couple more handstamps to the front)?
The Ukraine 'stamps' were printed in many odd ways. I'll look this up and get back to you. 999 is the most they could put on a 3-digit stamp, and when rates got to 5500 then you get several 999s. No distinction in being on reverse - usually no more room on the front [Ian Billings]
