Can anyone tell me more about this parcel delivery company (from London?)?
Listed in Robson Lowe Encyclopedia Vol. I. Priced (1952) at 20/- unused and 10/- used. There is also a diamond-shaped 2 penny black. The date of issue is given as approximately 1870. It was printed by lithography and should have a rough perf. 12.5 according to RL. [Jay Carrigan]
This Company was fully written up by me in my series on British Parcels Stamps in the Newsletter of the Parcels Stamps Group, No 1, 1997. Robson Lowe's book is not very helpful. Basically, the Company was registered in Great Britain on 4th July 1864. The stamps were issued from July 1864 until November 1864. The firm ran into difficulties and a resolution to the stockholders to wind up was passed at a meeting on 9th November, 1864. The premises were later used as a parcels receiving depot for the Great Western Railway. The stamps are fully listed and illustrated in my article on them. The Parcel Stamp Group is at Haugliveien 10, NO-4020 STAVANGER, Norway. E-Mail aks.gsr@c2i.net. My articles are copyright and may not be reprinted without my consent. [David M. Stirling]
