Niniltna Local Post
Niniltna is a small Alaskan village, somewhat south of midway between Cordova and Tok, at least in the imagination of Dana Stabenow. Dana is the author of nine mysteries about Kate Shugak, Aleut detective, who lives in a remote cabin near Niniltna. Dana's books are written with a great love for the natural beauty of her native Alaska, and are filled with adventure and humor, murder and mystery, Aleut lore, and a cast of likeable and independent eccentrics. "Hunter's Moon", her latest, was released eary May, 1999. A great read! Although I live about as far away from Alaska as you can get in the USA, I have borrowed her village with affection, and, I hope, her approval.

Niniltna Local Post - Precancel Issues
A set of five precancels based on the USA 1959 Alaska Statehood
issue. I scanned a used stamp and picked five colors unlike
the original deep blue, and precanceled them so that they can be used only
in a town that doesn't exist. (Since 1938, all precancels on stamps denominated
6c and higher must bear the initials of the user, NLP, guess who?, and
the month and year of use.)
Special Courier Service to Chicken (and back)
Issued for special mail runs from Niniltna to the somewhat
nearby community of Chicken, Alaska. Design is based on that most-maligned
of 1940's-era USA commemoratives, the 1948 Poultry Industry Centenary,
known affectionately as the "Chicken Stamp". I couldn't resist making another
in a different color for the return trip.
