Boy and Cub Scouts in the towns of Allendale, Franklin Lakes, Glen Rock, Ho-Ho-Kus, Mahwah, Midland Park, Oakland, Ramsey, Ridgewood, Upper Saddle River,Waldwick and Wykoff starting on March 24, 2007 distributed forty thousand bags and Twenty Thousand fliers to every home in our communities. Some units completed on that Saturday while others completed their tasks during the week. On Saturday, March 31, 2007 the Boy and Cub Scouts of Iaoapogh Mountains District picked up donations of nonperishable food, paper goods, and toiletries from the doorsteps of homes in each town. The multiple central collection sites went into operation at 8:00 A.M. the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute in Mahwah, with troop locations in Oakland, Midland Park and Ho Ho kus. We send our extend our heart felt thanks for their support and perseverance. The parents and the boys started canvassing the towns at 9:00 A. M. from an undetermined number of vehicles. Boys ran from doorstep to doorstep collecting bags and boxes of food, so generously contributed by the families of our community. When the boy's spied a bag, their pace would quickened and smiles beamed across their faces. While the weather did not cooperate, being cold and damp, it did not dampen their spirit. They completed their rounds in each town by 3:00 P.M. and left tired but with the sense of accomplishment. At ten o'clock bags and boxes started to arrive at the collection sites. Bags and boxes were then emptied on many tables and the task of sorting and boxing began. Both Scouts and Scouters were manning the collection sites and over sixty volunteers worked at the tasks at hand. The sorting involved classifying food products to cereals, pasta, canned vegetables, spaghetti sauce, canned meats, canned fish, canned fruits, Drinks, baby food, toiletries, miscellaneous products, condensed and super pasteurized milk products. Numerous truck loads were delivered to the food pantry at the Center for Food Action in Mahwah and the overflow was placed in temporary storage locations managed by the center. The success of the day was measured by the centers concern as to where to store the generous out pouring of the community. In total we collect 1200 boxes of food, paper good and toiletries to replenish the pantry We would like to thank each and every family in Iaoapogh Mountains District for their overwhelming generosity. Finally we would like to thank all the units, parents and boys, who gave freely their time and effort to complete this good turn and their commitment to performing a good turn daily. Special thanks goes to Our Lady of Mount Carmel youth ministries for providing assistance in the form of helping hands at our collection site Celebrating over 90 years of Scouting, Iaoapogh Mountains District.
