Translation of Kein's (Rhys's) quest, Phantasy Star III, Japanese version Notes: Name differences are noted below. If some of the Japanese name romanizations don't match the ones used in the Compendium translation, it's because I've finally given up on trying to figure out PS3's bizarre name changes and variants. (The exception is Maia's Japanese name; I maintain that it cannot be "Marina" because of the katakana spelling.) In rough order of appearance: Laya --> Laia Rhys --> Kein Landen --> Riik (It's "riiku" in pure katakana. I _still_ have no idea what the heck they meant here.) Maia --> Marlena Ilan --> Hyurri Wren --> Searren Many thanks to Neilast and Mike Ripplinger for use of the format employed in their PS3 English scripts - which can be found at http://members.tripod.com/~rak1/BAother/ps3script.html, if you'd like to do some English vs. Japanese side-by-side comparisons. But, it is also told that a hero named Orakio and his comrades waged war against Laia and sacrificed their lives to vanquish her. 1,000 years have passed since then. On the beaches of Orakio's former homeland, a girl stricken with anmesia has washed ashore. New Game Introduction ----------------------------------------------------------- Narrator: 1,000 years ago a witch named Laia was born... She created an army of monsters with which to conquer the world... The hero Orakio, however, raised an army of monsters and opposed Laia. The two armies rent the world, war raged, and, in the end, Orakio and Laia confronted each other...and vanished from the earth. The descendants of those who fought alongside Laia call themselves "Laians"... and the descendants of Orakio's supporters call themselves "Orakians". The war destroyed the ancient advanced civilization of this planet's world, and, even today, the people's lives remain affected by their unwavering old loyalties.... ----------------------------------------------------------- =*= First Generation =*= ----------------------------------------------------------- The Adventures of Kein, Prince of Riik ----------------------------------------------------------- RIIK ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Prince Kein! LANDEN CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Guards: - Prince Kein! Miss Marlena is waiting for you in her room! - We're not ready for the wedding ceremony yet! - Prince Kein! Does something disturb you? - Marlena looks especially beautiful today. (Kein enters Marlena's room and finds her waiting.) Marlena: I remember nothing but my name, Marlena... But now, I have no troubles. All because you're here, Kein... (Kein and Marlena walk to the throne room.) Kein: Knights in the service of the royal family of Riik! I, Kane Sa Riik, do proclaim that here today, Marlena and I...!? (A dragon flies into the castle and grabs Marlena.) Dragon: Ha, ha, ha! I am a disciple of Laia! I am reclaiming Princess Marlena! (The dragon and Marlena vanish.) Kein: ! What! Mar, Marlena! Where did you go?! MARLENA! MARLENA! MARLENA! Marlena... Just you wait, disciple of Laia! Knights of the lakes! Knights of the mountains! Knights of the forests! We are going to seek out and destroy that heretic! King: Fool! What do you think you're doing, calling out the royal knights and rushing off the start a war and chase after some "disciple of Laia" that you don't even know where it went! Maybe in the dungeon you'll cool your head and think about your responsibilities as a prince! (Guards step forward to take Kein away.) Kein: Father! Mother! Marlena! (Kein is sent to the dungeon, where more soldiers escort him to a cell. Kein sees a woman at the cellgate.) Lena: I'm Lena... Please, come follow me...I'll help you escape, Prince Kein... (She opens the gate and leads Kein down the corridor.) Lena: Please hurry and rescue Marlena. (Lena stays behind as Kein leaves the dungeon.) RIIK (after Marlena's kidnapping) ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - If you have the "Forest Sapphire", you'll be able to enter the eastern cave! - The ancient ones used bizarre devices to somehow launch themselves into the sky from the eastern ruins. - Prince Kein! Townspeople (Women): - Monsters have popped up out of nowhere around here lately, but... That's impossible! No monsters have appeared since 1,000 years ago, when Orakio defeated Laia... - The front castle gates have been shut. Oh, poor prince, is this because of you?... Townspeople (Children): - They say you won't find true strength if all you do is fight. At that rate, you'll never become your own master. Old Man above Fortune Teller: - That young lady who's lost her memory and doesn't know who she is or where she came from, Miss Marlena, is a sweet person. Man above Weapon Shop: - Just a little while ago, a monster stole the key to this world, the "Forest Sapphire", from the castle and flew toward an island to the south. Woman in Technique Distribution: - If you're a customer, please address the gentleman at the counter. Man above Technique Distribution: - That "Marlena" Prince Kein found on the beach, I wonder where she comes from...? Oh-! Prince Kein!! Um, um, never mind! Woman in Western House: - I pity the princess of the neighboring kingdom to whom Prince Kein is betrothed. Woman in Eastern House: - Orakians may fight, but they may not kill their enemies. (Kein visits the Fortuneteller.) Narrator: The fortune-telling crone appears to look into the prince's future. Fortuneteller (singing): Prince of Orakio's keep, the time has come to leave your castle! The purple and blue moons shall draw near! A despondent knight and a tormented doll shall awaken and gain power over the beasts! The two shall engulf the earth with the raging flames of cataclysm! And the prince's offspring shall carry on his wanderings! Narrator: The crone's speech has ended. Go forth and take heed. YAATA ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - In this world, those called Orakians are people of light, and those called Laians are people of darkness. I've never seen a Laian myself, though. - Laia's people wield mysterious powers. They use them to try to take over the world! Townspeople (Old Men): - I'm up in years...and I don't take on many customers... There's nothing in it for me in ferrying a man across... Townspeople (Women): - May Orakio's grace be with you and with the port town of Yaata! - The old man who runs the ferry is a hopeless lech - we've all given up on him. The fellow hanging around the fountains in a white outfit - that's him. Townspeople (Children): - If you walk along the shoreline, you'll come to a town called "Hyurri". Man above Armor Shop: - The monsters are the creations of Laia's followers. Man above Equipment Shop: - They say that, in the olden days, man could fly. Just once in my life, I'd like to construct a machine that would allow me to fly as well... HYURRI ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Laia's monsters were supposedly annihilated by Orakio's army 1,000 years ago, but... - I want to take a ride on the ferry, but the old man won't let you unless you have a woman with you! Townspeople (Woman): - May Orakio's grace be with you and with this island town of Hyurri! MIEU'S LAKE ----------------------------------------------------------- Mieu: I am not of Laia's tribe. I am an android - a Mieu-type... 580 years ago, I was created using forgotten skills and technology. My power failed, and I slept silently within this lake for a long time, but someone woke me up. Wherever I go, I'm always crowded in by people... But I'm not running away any longer! I'm going with you! Narrator: Mieu became a party member! HYURRI (after meeting Mieu) ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - She can't blink, but she looks just like a human girl in every other respect. - I still think you're a Laian! - I saw the dragon that took Miss Marlena go to another world. If only we had the "Forest Sapphire", the key to opening the way to that world, we could chase after it! Townspeople (Woman): - May Orakio's grace be with you and with this island town of Hyurri! SEA VOYAGE (after meeting Mieu) ----------------------------------------------------------- Old Man (Ship Captain): Well, WELL! Come join me on my boat! By the way, I hear that a powerful man is guarding some jewelry in a deep, dark cave down on the island. Are you going to depart? Well, when you're ready, get on board. (Kein and Mieu leave Yaata and get in the boat. On the way to the island cave, they pass a Sunken Palace.) Old Man: Look beneath the waves... Do you see that sunken palace? The story of that palace has been memorialized in song. It's a fine traditional ballad. (sings) "The fortress's people, thirsting for hatred's power, summoned the Darkness known by that name. Orakio, angered, thrust down his black sword, and sealed both fortress and Darkness away." ...That's it. (The boat arrives at the island.) ISLAND CAVE ----------------------------------------------------------- Lyle: My name is Lyle La Mirah! I haven't held you up for too long, have I? I was the one who stole your royal family's heirloom "Forest Sapphire"! I'll give it back to you! Perhaps we'll meet again someplace... RYSEL ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - This world is ravaged by cold and starvation. Townspeople (Old Men): - This country has been plunged into winter. The fishing boats can't leave port. We can do nothing but starve and die. Townspeople (Women): - May Orakio's grace be with you and with the fishing village of Rysel! - (singing) "In the midst of four fortresses lies the key to meeting the child of the desert. In the midst of the night lit by two twinkling moons lies the key to meeting the child of the seas." I'm Mai, the minstrel. This song has been handed down throughout the ages... Man above Armor shop: - To the south, there're some ancient fortresses that once belonged to Orakio's army. Woman above Equipment shop: - I'm too cute to die... I heard that there's a tower that holds the power to stop the snow in a desert world somewhere, but... ARIDIA ----------------------------------------------------------- (Kein finds Miun wandering in the desert.) Miun: Oh! You're Lord Orakio...I've been waiting to see you for... ...? NO! You're not Lord Orakio! You don't have his black sword! Oh! Where is my Lord Orakio? IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE WEATHER TOWER? SEARREN'S CAVE ----------------------------------------------------------- Searren: I am a Searren Type-386 system. Are you an Orakian? I am programmed to serve Orakians. I will follow your orders. Narrator: Searren the robot became a party member! WEATHER CONTROL TOWER ----------------------------------------------------------- Lyle: It's been a while, hasn't it...Kein... It's me, Lyle, the Sapphire thief... I'm on a journey to save my world, which has been entombed in ice, but this weather system has me at a loss - I tried to operate it, but it won't respond for me. ...? ...Say! Isn't that a Searren-type robot over there? Terrific! Please help me thaw out my frozen world! I'll swear to lay down my life for you and your children if you do! Narrator: Lyle became a party member! (The group continues on to the weather control system.) Narrator: Searren repaired the weather system. Searren: The weather system has returned to normal. Lyle: Thank you so much! As thanks, I'd like to show you my homeland. It's a short boat ride across the sea from Rysel. HAZATAK (after fixing the weather controls) ----------------------------------------------------------- Cyborgs: - VISITORS ARE RARE IN THE FORGOTTEN DESERT TOWN OF HAZATAK. - AN ANDROID GONE MAD WANDERS THE DESERT. - LONG AGO, TWO MOONS, THE "PURPLE MOON" AND THE "BLUE MOON", SHONE IN THE SKY. - IF YOU INSTALL THE TWO STONES IN THEIR PANEL, THE TWO FARAWAY MOONS SHALL RETURN... - 1,000 YEARS AGO, AT THE TIME OF THE LAIA-ORAKIO WAR, THE TWO STONES THAT CONTROL THE MOVEMENT OF THE MOONS, THE "MOON STONE" AND THE "MOON TEAR", WERE REMOVED FROM THE SATELLITE CONTROL SYSTEM ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE WEATHER CONTROL TOWER. RYSEL (after fixing the weather controls) ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - They say that across the sea live people who worship the black witch Laia as a goddess. Townspeople (Old Men): - You saved us all! My boat can take you across the ocean! Woman above Equipment shop: - A monster carrying a beautiful woman flew across the sea! AGOE ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Our land, Agoe, battles the Laian country of Shusoran to the north. - The cutest girl I ever saw was taken into the enemy's castle-- - I snuck into their deserted town and saw a monster come out of a fountain! Woman above Armor Shop: - Have you even seen a Laian? They look just like us! Man in House: - The Laians attack us with monsters of their own creation, while we Orakians use ancient machines and robots to fight. AGOE CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Soldiers: - The Laians built a castle on their country's northern border. - When we entered their city, the Laians were in hiding - we found no trace of them! - They've barred the front gates of their castle; we can't break in! King: - We are making headway in the war against the Laians, but it remains uncertain whether or not we will win... Queen: - If the Laians attack, what will become of us? SHUSORAN ----------------------------------------------------------- Boy above Technique Distribution: - Hey! Is it true that Orakians eat Laians? Man above Weapon shop: - Long ago, one could cross over from this island to the kingdom of Cille via a shoal that appeared at ebb tide. The shoal stopped appearing, though, when the two moons moved away. Boy above Armor shop: - When I grow up, I'll become a big important magician, create lots of monsters, and wipe out those demons that worship Orakio! SHUSORAN CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Lyle: ...Kein. Before we go any further, I'd like to test your strength. We shall determine whether or not you are truly a man worthy of my support. And... (Lyle leaves the group. If you try to go back, a soldier stops you.) Soldier: You may not pass. Lord Lyle forbids it. (Lyle is found. He is standing before Lena.) Lyle: Now, then, Kein! Take up your arms! Let us see what kind of man you really are! (A battle between Kein and Lyle ensues. Lyle is defeated.) Lyle: Just as I thought. You are indeed equal to the tasks that lie ahead. ...That girl, there. You're familiar with her, are you not? Lena: Prince Kein! Have you forgotten me? I'm Lena; we met in Riik's dungeon. Miss Marlena was taken to the island that lies on the other side of this castle's rear gate. When I heard that my Moon Stone was needed to cross over to the island, I tried to come to you, but I was attacked by monsters along the way. Lord Lyle here graciously came to my rescue, though, and, so, here I am. Well, let's go rescue Miss Marlena! (As you leave the castle, three castle residents are encountered.) Soldiers: - Lord Lyle! Do you wish me to strike down these vermin? - Lord Lyle! Why are you consorting with Orakians? Noble: - Filthy Orakians! Don't come NEAR me! SHUSORAN (after speaking with Lena) ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Prince Lyle! Welcome home to Shusoran! - The "Moon Stone" and "Moon Tear" have been gathered together. Now, if you bring them both to the tower in the desert... Townspeople (Women): - I don't understand what Lord Lyle is thinking. But, I have faith in him. - 1,000 years ago, the goddess of love, Laia, was slain by your land's Orakio. Boy above Technique Distribution: - Hey! WEATHER CONTROL TOWER (after speaking with Lena) ----------------------------------------------------------- Narrator: The Moon Stone and Moon Tear are inserted in the panel. The satellite system has resumed operation!! Searren: The two moons will probably start to draw near shortly. That will enable us to cross the sea to the north of Shusoran. CILLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Townspeople (Men): - Princess Marlena may have accepted your proposal, but we, the people of the kingdom of Cille, rebuke it! - Orakio's lackeys should stick to marrying their own kind! Townspeople (Women): - Oh! Laia, dear Goddess of Love! Princess Marlena...with an ORAKIAN... CILLE CASTLE ----------------------------------------------------------- Guards: - Princess Marlena may have accepted your proposal, but we, the people of the kingdom of Cille, rebuke it! - Orakio's lackeys should stick to marrying their own kind! Soldiers: - Oh! Laia, dear Goddess of Love! Princess Marlena...with an ORAKIAN... - Oh! Laia, dear Goddess of Love! Princess Marlena...with an ORAKIAN... (The king stands near his throne. Marlena is behind him.) King: I am the king of this country of Cille! To pester and chase after my daughter Marlena so betrays your aggrieved ignorance of your proper place! (A battle between Kein's party and King Cille ensues. King Cille is defeated.) King: You vanquished me... Perhaps you are a man of the stature Lyle says you are...even though you are an Orakian. But, you have a choice to make! I understand through my nephew Lyle's reconnaissance that the girl you call "Lena" is actually the princess of Satera, the kingdom adjacent to your own...the very princess raised as your fiancée! Of course, should you choose Marlena's hand, that would be fine, too... --End of Kein's quest--
