Jim Kimnach's View of the Cat Who... Audio Series

George Guidall is Qwill. After having listened to several books-on-tape of the "The Cat Who..." series, you become accustomed to George's voice. His slow, distinct reading is just like what you would imagine that sounds like Qwill's voice, as though Lilian was thinking of Guidall when she wrote the books. Because of the way he makes Koko's "yeowl" and "ick" sound, anyone else's sounds like a different cat.

George Guidall is the reader for most of the unabridged versions of the series. The abridged versions are done by a different company and they use different people to read their books. I listened to one abridged version read by Theodore Bikel, and it just wasn't the same. Mr. Bikel is an excellent reader, but I'm not used to hearing Qwill with an Eastern European accent. Also, his "cat" didn't sound anything like Koko.

Of all of the "The Cat Who..." books I have experienced (about 13), I have read about 3 of them, and listened to the rest. I enjoyed them both ways, but when I get the audio version, I make sure George is the reader--you can just see him reading through Qwill's mustache.
