Absolutely not! As sad as it would be for the series to end, I don't think it would be the same with another author.

I feel when Ms. Braun hangs up her pen the series should end. I have read the Cat Who series and it is obvious to me that KoKo, YumYum, and of course Mr. Q comes from the heart of Ms. Braun.
There could be no replacement.

I think if Lilian wants to retire, she should end the series herself. I think another writer might be able to write a slightly different series, such as The Cat When... historical mysteries, or The Cat Where ... travel mysteries, but The Cat Who... belongs to Lilian.
Shirley
I too think Lilian should end the series herself. I don't want it to end with the death of any of the star players though. When she ends the series....I think they should then consider making tv shows of the different books. Of course you would have to have the right stars for the appropriate roles. That's my opinion for what it's worth!

If there is going to be anyone else writing the series they should have a great understanding of the characters, maybe Ms. Braun could train them?
Tanis
Me, please, pick me!!! But seriously, I think the series should end when Ms. Braun decides it should end. I have to wonder what's happening with the series, given the uncharacteristically weak efforts of the last several books, but it's her series and her decision to make.

I have a sneaky feeling that a successor is already being groomed. I read Saw Stars again over the Thanksgiving holiday, and I think the reason it was such a weird, often threadbare story, was because it may have been (at least in part) the effort of a well-coached but lesser author. (They'd better keep the auditions open.) I'd prefer that LJB end the series herself and give her blessing to movies and/or TV. If she could choose her own successor and train her/him up right, there's no reason the series couldn't go on in perpetuity; but Putnam would have to be honest and put the real author's name on the cover, e.g.,
Lilian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who ...
... Ghosted a Novel
by Jacqueline Lill Bronson

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of "the series should end." I don't believe that anyone else should be writing the series except Braun herself. I don't think another author would have the same voice and writing style that we admire so much. They might come close, but it just wouldn't be the same.
Ann
I don't think the series would fare nearly as well with another hand at the helm--er, pen. However, what might be worth a see is a story written from some else's point of view, Junior's, Arch's, hey, even Polly's--see just where that famous jealousy springs from! (I can't blame her too much, I'd keep an eye on Qwill too!) It wouldn't necessarily have to be a mystery, there's potential for love and-or adventure.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! Ms. Braun should end the series. Why have a ghost writer who could possible damage the reputation of Quill, Koko, and Yum Yum? Not to mention Lilian herself!
