Responses to "Who's your favorite Cat Who... supporting character? ("Supporting" here means anyone besides the core three characters - Qwilleran, Koko, and Yum Yum.)":

Gotta love Amanda Goodwinter, bless her curmudgeonly heart. Derek Cuttlebrink is also a peculiar, lovable guy. Can't vote for Polly--I'm not a Polly fan. Would rather see Qwill hooked up with Fran Brodie.

Hixie Rice!!!!
I am very happy that LJB decided to bring Hixie back into Qwill's life by having her move to Pickax. She started out as someone who was a little pathetic, but after she moved to Pickax, she became this smart and sassy woman. She has spirit, vitality, and even though something is always going wrong, she is optimistic! I love to read the books to see what Hixie is going to come up with this time.
In one scene, after talking with Qwill, Hixie runs across the street and blows kisses to the drivers that are honking at her. I think that is pure Hixie and I love that image of her.

My favourite used to be Iris Cobb. Now I think I'm partial to Celia Robinson and, of course, Amanda Goodwinter.

I miss Iris Cobb! But, having said that, I would have to say that my favourite supporting characters are the Bambas. It was nice to see more of them in "... Came to Breakfast". They always seem to be there when Qwill needs real help, i.e. Nick sitting up all night in the cabin when the 'hoodlums' were gunning for Qwill; Nick helping Qwill rescue Yum Yum (... Wasn't There) and Lori bathing Yum Yum after her trauma; and many more too numerous to list. The Bambas seem to be the only friends upon whom Qwill relies without compunction. More, please.

Chris

I would have to say that Amanda Goodwinter is my favorite. She's cranky and ill-tempered, but sometime I get the sense that, underneath all of that, she's not that bad. A close second would have to be Andy Brodie.

Star21387

I believe that my favorite characters have to be the Bambas and Mildred Hanstable and Arch Riker. I think that Mildred brings back what Iris left - the motherly figure, the homemade cereal [ The Cat who went Underground ]. After Iris left, Mildred just jumped right in and helped Qwill when he needed it most. I would like to see more of Roger and Sharon and their child.

Bushy! He is very creative, trying so hard to get a photograph of Koko and Yum Yum. He finally managed to 'snap' one of precious Yum Yum. Will we ever find out if the photo makes the calendar? I also agree with Crystal, I'd like to see Qwill with Fran Brodie; even though Polly seems more his type, she's a jealous fuddy-duddy. I like the way Celia Robinson helps him spy on people - she is a kind of replacement for Iris Cobb. Just a thought on Lori Bamba: Qwill goes to her for "expert" advice on cats, she needs to inform him about FUS (Feline Urological Syndrome). With all the unorthodox food Qwill gives YumYum & Koko they are headed for trouble.

I have to agree with most of the responses so far. I too liked Iris Cobb. And I also like Amanda Goodwinter, Hixie Rice, and Celia Robinson. She's a little like Iris Cobb with the cooking. Most of these characters are not "goody-goody" straight-laced like Polly and I think that's why I like them better. I also would prefer Qwill with Fran Brodie. She's far more interesting than Polly is.
P.S. I also like Eddington Smith.

Dawn

Polly is by far my favorite supporting character. Her lack of an enthusiastic following only proves how true to life she is written. How many other female characters are size 16, polite and work a full time job? (And I have to admit, Bootsie has to be considered part of the package.)

Mousecatcher

I've always had a great fondness for Mildred Riker/Hanstable. Just because she's a nice, predictable (by my standards) person with no hidden agenda. There have been one or two who surprised me by appearing as genuine, for more than one book, then turned out to be rather slippery characters and I felt a bit like a friend had turned on me. I also rather liked Iris Cobb, brief though her stay was.
