Responses to "Months before The Cat Who Went Up the Creek is even released, the title of its successor, the Cat Who... for 2003, has been leaked - The Cat Who Brought Down the House. We have no plot details, though - therefore, following time-honored media tradition, we'll just make some up. Devise your own plot for The Cat Who Brought Down the House.":

When I hear "The Cat Who Brought the House Down" I know 3 things - Koko & Yum-yum had a cat fit and "Brought the House Down" or a bad guy broke in and after that K & Y attacked and "Brought the House Down" or it could be something totally different. It could be a different cat or this plot that came to me in a dream...
Polly disappears and Qwilleran is can't believe she is gone. He has search teams looking for her, Chief Brodie contacts police in other counties. After her car turns up but the only clue in the car is a book cover from an old edition of (I do not know what book). This only adds to the many clues. He receives a postcard from Washington (state), Before she disappeared, Polly started acting out of the ordinary, and expensive, rare books were disappearing from the Pickax Library. Later after it looks like she may never return, Qwilleran adopts her two Siamese Bruce and Catta. The cats get along very well (there goes Qwill's excuse). Catta disappears about two weeks later. She returns with 5 little kittens following her. At Qwilleran's dismay he keeps the kittens yet wonders why Polly never spayed Catta. Koko starts getting short tempered, but keeps the kittens behaving except one who is "out of control." To Qwill's surprise the kittens start helping him solve the biggest mystery of his life, but will they be able to solve it before the bad kitten "Brings the House Down"?

A new Actor comes into sleepy little Pickax and not only does he take the lead from Derek Cuttlebrink at the local theatre, replaces him as the Maitre'D at the Mackintosh but also starts making the moves on Elizabeth Appelhardt. When the curtain opens at the Pickax Community Theatre and the Actor is dead, Derek is the Prime Suspect. It is up to Qwill and Koko to prove Derek's innocence.

Wasn't there a rumor that LJB was planning to end the series soon? Brought Down the House could be a logical "wrapping up" for this; Pickax may end up like Steven King's Castle Rock, overwhelmed by some catastrophe (a mine fire?) Alternative (and concurrent?) theory: An ancient secret connected to the Goodwinters, or to Ms Klingenscheon herself, or both, is discovered, in private, by Qwill and possibily one other--Polly, a scandal which could have devastating results if made public. While they debate the moral obligations of what to do, a stranger arrives in town, one connected to the long-ago scandal, followed by a second, apparently unconnected person. The first person approaches Qwill, and the Mayor--this might be a good time to dwell on the mayoral election race--demanding money or long ago land rights, threatening to reveal everything. Of course this person will soon end up murdered. Stranger no 2, a young woman, either admits to being afraid and/or goes into hiding, but refuses to explain. Polly is repeatedly threatened by mysterious phone calls/letters, Koko keeps playing with burnt matches. Celia's grandson turns up, having run away from home, Koko is fascinated with pictures of black dogs, shredding a costly library book. Qwill finally publishes his (2nd) book, one more document from his past turns up, the climax will come during some kind of storm.

"The Cat Who Brought Down the House" has to do with acting, since the expression refers to an exceptional entertainer. Maybe Qwill gets to act or produce or is just sticking his nose into a local production bringing Koko and Yum Yum with him. Someone gets killed, and in the final act of the play the murderer is uttering his final lines when Koko appears on stage and meows really loud thus causing the murderer to fumble his lines and publicly admit his crimes, and Koko gets a standing ovation and the headline in the Moose County Something is "Local Cat brings down the house".
