If you think a sabbatical is in order perhaps Qwill and his feline friends (not to mention Mrs. Duncan) could take a trip to Spain. There they discover the Camino Trail (an ancient trek taken by royalty, pilgrims and pirates) said to enhance you spiritually and help you discover true inner enlightment (ask Shirley McLaine) along the way. Of course there would be your basic murderous scandals not to mentioned unexplained howling and scratching from "THE CATS". The trail was protected in the times of the crusade by the holy knights and Charlamagne himself was said to fight there (I think that would be of great interest to both Polly and Qwill not to mention what it would do for Koko).

Wouldn't Scotland be his best bet? I mean, if he's from there (originally) it would be interesting to see it now, and maybe an old family member comes out of the woodwork. Could be...

I'd like to see Qwill visit the St. Louis area, something to do with Iris Cobb's grandson, maybe. Even tho Dennis and his wife had divorced, would anything have been held in trust for their son, Iris' grandson? Remember, she was rather wealthy from her short-lived marriage to Herb Hackpole. Ideally he should have only the cats and one travelling companion, not Polly but some legal representative.

I believe a good storyline (or two) could come from time on a cruise ship : murder and mayhem onboard with no chance of the murderer escaping on the high seas - heaven knows we need to help the author get "back on track" with a sink-your-teeth-into-a-good-plot book after having to SUFFER through her latest attempt (Smelled A Rat). Don't get me wrong, I'll be in line for the next book - I've read all of them a few times over - I just wish we'd see the quality we did a few years back.

I'm sure Qwilleran would love to go to the Ashland Oregon Shakespeare festival. I could also see him taking a summer and flying to every major baseball stadium in the country to see a game. On a whim, I could also see him flying down below to catch a cat show for his column out of personal curiosity and visit his Fluxion friends.

I think Qwilleran should visit one of the islands of Hawai`i. That's kind of a stretch though, because it would be a loooong plane ride. And probably, all through the plane trip, you could hear Koko and Yum Yum yowling from all throughout the cabin. But let's just say he could get there. He could see if Koko likes poi. Just kidding. Koko would probably prefer sashimi. But Qwilleran could learn a lot about the culture of Hawai`i and get information for the Qwill Pen, while relaxing in a cabin on Barber's Point beach in Oahu, listening to the waves.
And then he could walk on the beach, and random women would think that his sunglasses look sexy with his mustache.
There could be a supernatural aspect to a mystery in Hawai`i. Something to do with the ancient Hawaiian gods and goddesses, or menehune or pua, mischievous spirits. Koko could be in tune with these ancient powers, and Qwilleran would be totally oblivious or skeptical toward the supernatural forces involved with the mystery (as usual).
