Mutter a lot, and inevitably crash it, losing all files. Koko then walks across the keyboard, instituting a file recovery program. Qwill finally comes to terms with the infernal machine, realizing that Pickax can't live in the 19th century forever, and must keep up with society. He then accidentally sends his computer journal (documenting Koko's incredible accomplishments) to the online office of a major newspaper from Down Below. The media then invades Pickax, destroying several landmarks. Qwill is banned from Pickax for the rest of his natural life, and spends his days on the run from the Paparazzi.

I suppose Qwill would noodle about with it; he might enjoy the word-processing part but never really cotton to the thing. Then again, there might be the fun of Polly having to teach him! I am hardly original in this, but I suspect the real user would be Koko, coming up with real genius--always off-stage of course. Personally I'd love to see something from Koko's point of view!

After weeks of avoiding his new computer (a Christmas gift from Arch, who knows what a technophobe he is), Culvert McBee will show Qwill how to access the Internet. He'll be hooked, and will order dozens of books from Amazon.com, correspond with Mackintoshes in Bonnie Scotland, and participate in Siamese cat-related chat rooms as "Frobnitz."
Unfortunately, his new addiction takes its toll. Eddington Smith closes up shop because his best customer has stopped visiting. The Bambas mark him off their Christmas card list because he never calls Lori for cat advice anymore. A certain Maggie Mackintosh (no relation) becomes a cyberstalker. But when he misses a vital clue to a murder when Koko pushes his e-book reader off the desk, causing it to lose its data, Qwill pulls the plug and returns to his technophobic ways. He donates the computer to the library, but keeps the mouse for Koko and Yum Yum to play with. e-YOW!
Mousecatcher
He would probably try and come to terms with it if he had to, but he wouldn't stick with it. He might use it occasionally for research on the Net, but I don't see him using word processing facilities or anything. Why bother when he can produce work of quality with an old typewriter, and not have to learn a whole load of new technology he probably isn't interested in. Ultimately it would end up stuck away in a corner, although I can imagine him buying a decent fitted plastic cover for it to avoid having to dust it. I don't feel that Koko would have any great love for it either, although it's more than possible that Yum Yum might find some pleasure in sleeping on top of the warm monitor if it was left on.

I think Qwill might do the same as I did. Say over and over I didn't want a computer, get one, and get hooked just as Crystal described.
KittyKat
What would Qwill do with a computer? I could see him receiving it at the beginning of a Cat Who mystery. He would not like it and not want to learn how to use it. He would view it as a waste of time. He can easily jot down 1000 words on any topic using his old reliable typewriter and bike it over to the newspaper office. So it would sit in the box until the end of the novel. Then, Qwill would find the perfect place for it to be donated. For example, a worthy but poor kid with hacker abilities.
The Tripod (the most handsome three-legged kitty-cat in the universe ^^)
If Qwill had a computer, someone would have had to give it to him -- probably olly, because you can't run a library efficiently nowadays without 'em. At first Qwill would mutter-stutter-sputter, and then he'd become curious. He and Koko would spend an evening learning how to use it, becoming experts, of course. And, then, after Yum-Yum has had her fun trying to snatch and hide the contraption, he'd donate it to the Moose County School District.
Dee Patty
I'd like to see Koko hop on the keyboard and type something to Qwill, that would be cute and interesting, or Qwill get so mad because he deleted a file, bang on its side and break it, shouting "Darn technology!!!" Hehehehehe, it would be funny!

I just wanted to suggest that the author write a book on "The Cat Who Found A Mouse", whereas Koko learns to use the mouse on his owner's computer and thereby solves a murder.

I think Qwill would take to a computer like a duck to water. But he'll still hop on his bike and turn his copy in personally to the Paper. Nothing beats shooting the breeze with your friends and cronies. However, when he's on vacation or on assignment, I'm sure he'll appreciate being able to eMail or fax his stories.
