So where is Moose County, anyway? |
|
Yes, of course Lilian Jackson Braun has said that Moose County is make-believe, a "composite", assembled from pastiche from real-life locales familiar to her. But the fictional Moose County has to be situated somewhere within its fictional U.S., doesn't it? And wouldn't identifying their real-life inspirations help us better visualize and understand the myriad Cat Who... locations? Below are two sections, entirely owing to reader support, to help us get a better feel for for that place 400 miles north of everywhere - and elsewhere. (Unfortunately, the orthographically-impaired lawyers at Webshots forced me to take down Eileen Carlan's beautiful "Qwilleran's World" section.)

Chris Jackson's Extensive Dissertations
Chris Jackson's extensive research and speculation concerning the actual northern-Michigan locations upon which he believes Moose County is based. Excerpted from a rough draft of a continuing project, but no less amazing in its extremely precise detail.
