| It was late Spring of 2000 when a mid-50 year old white-haired biker with a long and flowing white beard pulled into the driveway of our independent Harley shop here in Spokane, Washington on his brand new 2000 Harley Road King. He had a twinkle in his eye, a smile on his face, and he introduced himself as "Jinx" (aka Steven Carl Adams). That day a friendship was birthed that we will always treasure. We spent the next few months getting to know him and his wife, Suzy Lee, as Steven was finishing out a half-way program here in town after being released from prison. He did nearly half his life behind bars. He spent much of his time on the inside drawing his artwork. When released he had a room full of all his art in his and Suzy's house. In the Fall of 2000 he finally finished his program and him and Suzy settled into their new life together. |

We spent many days that summer sitting around and shooting the bull and talking biker crap. We signed on as Jinx's sponsor at the half-way house and he was allowed to get day passes to come over to our place. During those days he began drawing and painting on our garage door. We wanted something totally non-conventional to draw attention for our Harley business but we didn't want a traditional sign. Steven painted a picture of us on Jim's 1947 Knucklehead as if it is breaking through the garage door. It is so awesome! People are always stopping just to admire it. The picture to the left is what it looked like last Christmas. |

| The picture on the right is a close-up of our door. It's incredible, isn't it? Jinx painted it with such ease! A true artist...deep, natural talent! On September 11, 2001 this nation had a devastating attack of terrorism but also outside a small town in Washington state Jinx was riding Suzy's Harley Sportster when he had a horrendous accident. He was left in the ditch on the side of the road for hours and eventually life-flighted to Seattle. Odds were that he would not survive the accident but Stephen surprised everyone and even though most of his body was broken he spent months recuperating and beat all the odds. He got out of the hospital and went home, continued to heal, and proceeded with building a couple of new bikes. His eyes were on his future. Then in June of 2002 Stephen found out that two of the pins in his spine had broken and he needed additional surgery. It was relatively minor, routine, and after getting a thorough check-up he was given the green light to proceed. All his organs, etc. were declared strong. The surgery went off without a hitch and Stephen went to recovery. There he came out of the anaesthetic and was moving his arms and legs. Everything looked positive and Jinx was readied to go his room to finish recovery. As they wheeled him down the hall to his room his face suddenly went pale and he died. All attempts to resucitate him were fruitless. Suzy, his friends, and the world suffered a massive loss that day! |

Though he is now gone from this earth Steven Carl Adams still lives on in the hearts of those of us who had the honor of knowing him. Our lives are different and better because he touched us. I'll never forget his smile and warm and caring nature. I hope that as you look at some of his artwork on the following pages that you, too, can come to know and appreciate him in a small way. RIDE ON, BRO!! |
