The Johnston Building
The Johnston Building is located in Dayton, Ohio in the Historic Oregon District. This is an historic part of town which has been under continuous renovation for many years. The area is full of trendy bars, excellent resteraunts, artists galleries and studios, recovered and recovering victorian homes, and a fair amount of abandoned space in and above old storefronts. This photo gallery is of such an Abandoned Place.
"Dorothy's" (In the Johnstone Building)
A friend (Paul Bruce) and I undertook an effort to locate such a place 5 years ago and discovered the Johnston Building. The photos in this gallery represent my photos that were made in this space from 1998 until 2002 when serious movement on the most recent remodeling prevented continued use. The photographs are mostly contridictory, and the subjects are collaborators in the making of these photographs. They bring much to the work presented here.
This show was presented at Capricorn Gallery and Framing in June 2002. Capricorn Gallery and Framing is in The Johnston Building, at 519 E Fifth Street, Oregon District, Dayton, Ohio.
