Globe and Miami, Arizona
Places & Perspectives
It all started when I did a small show in Scottsdale, Arizona. Helen, the gallery owner, said, "...But what I need is an Arizona Hook." Meaning, all the photos presented were from Ohio, and none were from Arizona. I needed to fix this. And she added, "I know just the place which will have the right feel for your photos." Off we went, to Globe, to Miami, both east of Scottsdale about 60 miles on US 60. Both copper mining towns that are past their primes. These photos represent some images taken in 2003 in these places. Some of the people that I met in Globe looked at me as it I were not well, but they all opened their hearts and this place to me as if I were the prodigal son.

First, some views of the place. Not what I really do as motivated fine art, but I always do these things out of curiosity, and documentary & historical interests that I cannot escape.
The photos on the following pages were made all over the area, Globe, Miami, around town, out of town. As with other images that I make, these photos are neither portraits of the people nor the place, but photos which allow for the viewer to add personal values.
Some Notes:
None of these photos would be here without contributions from many others - Collaborators, location owners, models, and friends to make introductions. My thanks to all of them: to Helen - who first introduced me to Globe and first friends. To Linda, who introduced me to many places and made arrangements; to Jon and Laurie, to Tony, to Sara, to Delvan, to Barbara, to Evelyn, to Helen G, who all welcomed me into their space; and to Helen, Debbie, Jaclyn, Linda who have "shared the vision" in creating these photos. To Helen, of Cedar Hill B&B who always accepted me as family. There are many others who have made this informal project happen, and I hope that they all enjoy this as well.
