(Author note)  This obituary for Eli. H. Pendroy was in the paper Oct. 18, 1899. The article is verbatim.

Death of Eli Pendroy

Eli Pendroy was born April 15, 1831 in Harrison County Indiana: came to Iowa with his father's family in 1851 and has lived in this vicinity ever since, died at his home 4 miles northwest of Monroe Sunday morning Oct. 15th, at the age of 68 years and 6 months.

He was married to Eliza Grubb Aug. 27, 1857, who departed this life May 1, 1871. To them were born seven children; four sons and three daughters, Two sons  and 1 daughter preceded him to the Great Beyond.

The remaining children were permitted to attend him in his last hours and do all that loving hands and heart could do. He was a kind and loving father, a good neighbor, always lending hand to the poor and needy. His heart was ever open to the cry of distress, especially to motherless children: knowing so well what a home was without a mother, being left alone with his little children.

God called his companion early in life and left him to care for the little ones, and one an infant of a few days. He did the best he could for them. His suffering was intense but he bore it with fortitude. He was anxious to be at rest and would say another day of suffering but it is all right.

In his last sickness said he had prayed to the Lord and felt his peace was made with God and he wanted to go.

The funeral occurred at his home Monday at 11:00 o'clock, Rev. John M. Tool, officiating.-Mirror.
