NAXTransportation
is a
fictitious railroad corporation. It was created as a vehicle to
share the fun of model railroading. This website mixes reality and
hobby to create a dimension of enjoyment for all of its visitors.
The
subsidiary lines of the corporation are based in the history of
railroading in Northern New Jersey and New York's Hudson River
Valley.
The
Northern Valley, Knickerbocker, & Eastern Railway
is a freelance shortline, modeled in part on the New York Central's West
Shore Division. It is conceived as a New York Central successor line
set in the present day.
It's
design, with passing sidings, yard and team tracks, allows for
multiple train operation. The NVK&E is connected with
CSX's River Line at an unseen location.
Conrail
(Shared Assets) OINV is often seen on the River Line waiting
clearance to cross over onto the NVK&E at KX Tower (Knickerbocker
Interchange). This switching local usually has a string of cars to
be set-out on the NVK&E prior to picking up empties.
The NVK&E
is maintained as a showcase for the equipment collection of
its owner and COO, Nick Ariemma. The equipment on the property
varies regularly to meet the needs of on-line shippers and railfans
alike. The layout is designed so that many moveable accessories
(cars, signs, etc.) can be "set" to represent a number of
different eras.
Things
change each month, as alternating parts of the Chief Operating
Officer's collection arrive on the property.
It's fun.
The Railway runs what it owns, maintains its own equipment, and even
has the neighborhood kids in once and awhile for an operating
session (and obligatory history lesson).

The New
York, West Shore, and Buffalo Railroad was
created in 1882 to build a line from Weehawken, NJ to Buffalo, NY.
The name was derived from the location of the initial right of way
on the West Shore of the Hudson River.
The West
Shore reached Buffalo around 1884.
In 1885 the
West Shore was reorganized as the West Shore Railroad, a wholly
owned subsidiary of the New York Central lines. It operated in this
capacity until 1952 when the West Shore was formally merged into the
New York Central.
Quite a bit
of the old West Shore still exists today and is used by CSX as the
mainline freight corridor into the New York metro area. CSX is the
successor to Conrail, Penn-Central and the New York Central. Pieces
of the West Shore in central New York exist as either bypasses or
connections to the NYC's "Water Level Route" to Chicago.
The West Shore's East Buffalo Yard is now a part of CSX's Frontier
Yard.

The
West Shore runs in the family! Will Collins (Nick's maternal
Grandfather) and his Fireman John Barry pose with their Atlantic in
Newburgh, NY yards.
Three
generations of this family have worked for "The Central",
ending with Nick's Gandy Dancing during that last Summer prior to
the PC merger.
