A Small Catechism for Preschoolers

This was made with our three year old son Alex in mind. I also aim to use it with our son, Benjamin, who has Down Syndrome. I wanted a catechism, the answers to which were Bible verses. As the children memorize the answers, they are memorizing Scripture. The Bible version used is the International Children's Bible published by WORD

1. Who made you?
Job 33:4a The Spirit of God created me

2. What else did God make?
Rev 4:11b1 “[GOD] made all things

3. Why did God make all things?
Rev 4:11b “[God] made all things because [HE] wanted it so

4. How do we learn about God?
IITim 3:16a All Scripture is given by God and is useful for teaching

5. What does the Bible teach about God?
IJohn 4:16 God is love

6. How many gods are there?
Deut 6:4 b The Lord is our God. He is the ONLY Lord

7. Name the three parts that make up God?
Matt 28:19b Baptize [people] in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit

8. Can God see us?
Prov 15:3 The Lord’s eyes see everything that happens

9. How long has God existed?
Ps 90:2b “[God] ha[s] always been and [he] will always be”.

10. How is man different from the rest of nature?
Gen 1:27 God created human beings in HIS image

11. Who was the first man?
Gen 2:7 God formed the [Adam] from the dust

12. What was Adam like when he was first made?
Gen 1:31 God looked at EVERYTHING that he had made and it was very good.

13. Did Adam stay good?
Rom 5:12 Sin came into the world because of what [Adam] did.

14. What is sin?
I John 3:4 When a person sins, he breaks God’s law.

15. What is the punishment for sin?
Rom 6:23 When someone sins, he earns, what sin pays - death

16. What happened after Adam's sin?
Rom5:12b And this is why all men must die- because all men sinned

17. How did Adam's sin affect all men?
Gen 3:17 [God said:] “because of [Adam], I will put a curse on the ground”

18. How may we be saved from sin and death?
Rom 6:23b But God gives a free gift - life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord

19. Who is Jesus Christ?
Matt 3:17 God said: “This is my son and I love Him”.

20. Did Jesus ever sin?
Hebr 9:14 He offered himself as a PERFECT [without sin] sacrifice to God.

21. What did Jesus do for us?

22. What did Christ get rid of ?
ICor15:26 The last enemy to be destroyed, death

24. Who are Christ’s enemies ?

26. What does the Holy Spirit do?
John 16:15 Jesus says:” The Spirit will take what I have to say and tell it to you”

Heb11:1 Faith means knowing something is real even if we do not see it.

28. How are we forgiven for our sins?
Rom 3:22 God gave Jesus as a way to forgive sin through faith

29. Who are Christ's people?
Acts 2:47 More people were being saved every day and the Lord was adding those people to the group of believers.

30. What is the job of the church?
IICor 5:20 We have been sent to speak for Christ

31. How do we worship God?
Col 3:16 Sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with thankfulness in your hearts to God

32. Who is Head of the Church?
Eph5:23 Christ is the head of the church

33. What happens to us who believe in Jesus?
John 10:28 Jesus says:“ I give them eternal life and they will never die”

34. What is heaven like?
Rev 21:4 [Christ] will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, sadness, crying or pain.
I Thes 4:17 And so we shall live with the Lord forever.

35. What happens to those who don’t believe Jesus?
Matt 25:41 Jesus says:”Go away from me. God has said that you will be punished. Go into the fire that burns forever.”

36 What is Hell?
Mat 13:42 [In Hell], people cry and grind their teeth with pain.
