Classical Writing -

About us

The Classical Writing series began in 2002, when Tracy Davis Gustilo and Lene Mahler Jaqua wrote the first book, Classical Writing - Aesop. It was and is intended as the first exercise in the progymnasmata series. Our second book was Classical Writing - Poetry for Beginners, a supplementary enrichment text for teaching writing, specifically with analysis and imitation of poetry in mind.

At this point Carolyn Vance joined us as our editor-in-chief. Year 2004 saw the publication of Classical Writing - Homer. About this time, Kathy Weitz, a homeschool mom and fan of our books, was beginning to write make up her own workbooks to ease the preparation work for teaching her own students in Classical Writing . Kathy showed us her workbooks, we were totally impressed. In 2005, she joined our team and with blazing speed had Student Workbooks and Instructor's Guides with answer keys ready. So far she has completed the supplementary volumes for Classical Writing - Aesop, Classical Writing - Poetry for Beginners, and CW - Homer. The year 2005 also saw Classical Writing - Diogenes: Maxim, our first book on essay writing, come to publication.

Our team consists 100% of college educated homeschool moms who currently homeschool a combined 16 students. Kathy has graduated two already. Lene and Tracy will soon graduate their first students.

We live in four different states across the United States, and not all of us have met face to face yet :)
