BRISTOL COUNTY, Massachusetts
*First created, in 1685, of Plymouth Colony.
*County seat: Tauton has been the county seat since 1746.  Prior to that year the seat was Bristol.
Bristol County is located in southeastern Massachusetts, with Massachusetts counties of Plymouth to the east, Norfolk to the north, and Dukes, to the south, across Buzzard Bay.  At its western boundary, are the counties of Providence, Bristol, and Newport in the state of Rhode Island.
