stones of that State...The total exposuie of the North Vernon blue
stone
is about 30 feet thick, and the bed covers an extemided area in

of Ripley, State of Indiana...

Life Histories for Indiana: From List select: "Reminiscences of
Morgan's Raid" - "...At the time of the raid I was not at home in
Graham township which was less than a mile from the line of march of
the
enemy army, but was away temporarily visiting my uncle, Dr. N. D.
Gaddy, at
Weston, in Jennings county, and so did not see any of the
rebels...Hearing of a movement among the citizens to assemble at Vernon
and engage the enemy in battle, my uncle joined them..."
- Morgan's
Raid Project : The echoes of the Civil War are becoming louder
in
Indiana. A group has been organized to formally define and publicize
the
route of John Hunt Morgan's celebrated 1863 raid through Southern
Indiana.
On July 11, 1863, Morgan's Raiders were turned away by union
defenders at Vernon, Indiana. This raid marks one of only two Civil War
confrontations fought on northern soil.
