CELILO FALLS

Celilo falls area was shown in Lewis and Clarks Journals and has been used by the Indians for thousands of years for fishing. Celilo Falls is located 12 miles east of The Dalles, Oregon , and about 102 miles from Portland, located on the Columbia River.  It no longer exists today, as it was covered completely when the Dalles Dam was completed.

There is a small lndian village located on the south side of haghway I 84 and a rest area on the north side of the highway, between the highwy and the river.  for those persons not familiar with the Columbia river,  it is the boundary between Oregon and Washington states.  It starts in Canada and flows into the Pacific Ocean at Astoria, Oregon

All of the pictures to follow were taken from the Oregon side of the river.  This was where most of the fishing took place,  although there was fishing all up and down the river and on both sides of the river.
