Haute Route -- Europe

Ken Roberts and Sharon Marsh Roberts

Sharon and I arrived at the Geneva airport on a sunny April morning and found the bus to Chamonix. Since we had the weather, we bought some food in Chamonix and took the lifts up to the Grands Montets. We got off at the top with the downhill skiers, took a few pictures, and then started right off that first afternoon.

Descending to Argentiere glacier

Sharon skiing down to the Argentière glacier from the Grands Montets. Tomorrow we will be climbing to the Col du Chardonnet beyond her (flanked by the Aiguille du Chardonnet and the Aiguille d'Argentière).

Climbing by Aig du Chardonnet

The next morning, after sleeping in the Argentière hut,

Nearing the Col du Chardonnet

Sharon now almost to the Col du Chardonnet

Climbing to Fenetre de Saleina

The next pass -- Ken climbing to the Fenêtre de Saleina

After that we had still one more pass, Col des Ecandies, and a long run down the Arpette valley until the mushy snow finally ran out. At the end of a long day we walked into the town of Champex.  We bought some more food, and then waited for the postbus to come and take us to the next leg of our journey …

... but that has yet to be put up on the website.
