Central Iowa Shetland Sheepdog Rescue

There are a few dedicated individuals in Iowa who participate in Sheltie Rescue.

I can think of no better way to put it than the words found on the ASSA Website :

 

"Sheltie Rescues take in abandoned, lost and unwanted Shelties

and attempt to find them new loving homes. "

While it is our feeling that, by and large, these Shelties are the product of backyard breeders and puppy mills, (see "How to Find a Breeder" on AKC's Website) this in no way diminishes their right to enjoy quality care, love and the companionship of a deserving human family.

In addition, it in no way diminishes the responsibility that the gaurdians of the breed have towards protecting, when and wherever possible, the integrity of each individual Shetland Sheepdog. Each to their own, according to ability. While we are not often in a position to be able to foster dogs in our own place of residence, we will occasionally foster dogs and are currently working to put together a network of foster homes in Iowa.
