RESCUE

A word on why we participate in this hobby. We breed for ourselves, and we breed for the breed at large. We pound the pavement on the weekends to show other breeders where our program is headed and to expose ourselves to the breeding programs others are putting together. We spend hours on our hands and knees whelping that promising litter, perhaps getting up every three hours around the clock to tube feed a weaker puppy if the need arises... We shuttle to and from the airport at all hours of the day and night, we forgo some of our family's social engagements for the sake of our dogs. We tell them, as we walk out the door to work in the morning, "We're off to earn your puppy kibble!" Like many of our colleagues, we have sacrificed much to be able to enjoy the sport of purebred dogs.

Fortunately, the Shelties make it all worthwhile.

Understanding our background and basis explains why we only very occasionally have show prospects available. Why? The honest truth is that it is so much easier to find those excellent companion homes than it is to find the show home that you know will do justice to a dog in the ring. There are many wonderful, wonderful people in Shelties, but the time isn't always right, or the circumstance, or the dog. To serve the best interests of the dog, we typically will not hang onto a show prospect that we ourselves do not need in our breeding program, and unless serendipity brings along the right home in a timely fashion, we will look for a much deserved companion home.

What does this mean to the prospective show/breeder? If you feel that our breeding program may have something to offer, please contact us in advance of our planned breedings. This gives us a chance to know each other and get a feel for what you might need, want or hope to find.

For companion puppies, prospective homes must understand that they are making a commitment for 12 - 18 years. They aren't just getting a dog, prospective owners are essentially adding a new family member to their lives.

In both cases, there must be the proven ability and willingness to properly care for and train your Sheltie. We carefully lay the groundwork, and from the moment that dog joins your household, we depend upon you to pick up where we left off. By and large, dogs from our breeding program are bright, outgoing, intelligent and happy individuals. Training and socialization will keep them that way.

We reserve the right to select the appropriate homes for any of our puppies or adults who may be available.
