Interests

My interests include a variety of topics broad enough that we will have to break them down into a couple of topics; arts, music, theater, literature, games, and whatever else I come up with later.

Art
I am an avid artist.  I live to explore the world of art in it's many forms.  The two areas I excel in are charcoal and oil painting in fantasy or abstract.  I love to go on excursions in downtown Tacoma on 3rd Thursday, which is when all of the art galleries present their new stuff, to look at the variety of art we have here and for inspiration.  We here in Tacoma are very blessed with a large variety of art styles.  For example we have just to the North of us Dale Chihuly, the world renowned glass blower extraordinair.  We also have Hector Diaz, a renowned local artist that helps underprivileged children.
I don't do art very much as I am very meticulous with my work and get involved completely, and as I am in school and do other things it is too exhausting to work on a piece and do these other things at the same time.  When I do do pieces though I am very pleased with my work and if possible I would like to get copies of them onto this page.  I will not however be publishing any of my poetry here as most of it is very personal.

Music
A topic many people regret bringing up with me is music.  This is one of the main parts of my existence.  I live with music in my heart.  I am very open to all forms of music but have many preferences.  I enjoy most gothic, ethereal, and ambient music, and have a true passion for old school techno.  I enjoy Celtic music very much and enjoy the combination of Celtic with music from the Middle East, as in Loreena McKennit's new CD.  I love classical music and listen to it most of the time.  I love interesting, funky, eclectic bands that have no real classification in what their style is.  I like folk music a lot and will always have a warm place in my heart for Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos, Indigo Girls, and their counterparts across the land.

Theater
I love the performing theater.  I participated in a joint modern dance and musical theater company for many years called the Dancer's Theater Company in Salt Lake City, Utah.  A wonderful woman ran, and still runs, this company named Pearl Garff.  I owe much of my creativity and self-expression to this woman and will always be indebted to her for all she has done to help me through the tough times in life.
I still continue on her tradition of fun teaching when I teach children theater and music during summer school through the local Parks & Recreation.  I find no joy in life greater than passing on my love and joy for theater and music to a new generation of children.  I believe that the best time in a child's life to help them in their discovery of who they are and the development of their creativity is when they are at a ripe, open minded age of 6-12.  This is the time when kids need the most help in keeping their minds eye and their creativity as open and vivid as possible.
In today's society many children allow the television to be their minds eye, and this may be good as a break from other things, but a TV should never take the dominant role of a child's creativity.  When a child learns to become dependent on a television for his or her creative side that child will then stop yearning to be creative elsewhere.  This, i believe, is why so many children of today's society find so little enjoyment in reading, art, and just being creative.  This, then, creates a problem when that child later in life has to turn on that creative side of their brain and use it to think abstractly, solve a problem, or just to create out of nothing.
