The November Branch Meeting, continued.   Entitled "A Helping Hand from CCNN: 'Neighbors Helping Neighbors,'" a pocket-sized brochure explains the mission and lists the mailing address and telephone number of the Community Care Network of Nichols.  Founders Shirley Tiffany and Sandy McCoy Cleveland described the development of the program with the mission "...to enhance the quality of life for people living in and around the Nichols community."
Both Shirley Tiffany and Sandy McCoy Cleveland had worked in the health care field and had noticed that many people, especially those living alone, soon after being released from the hospital were readmitted.   It appeared that many patients needed support after being discharged.   When extra help , such as help with transportation to doctor's appointments and to the grocery store, help in finding reliable medical information, and help in enabling people to live independently in their own homes was available, the number of patients returning quickly to acute care was reduced by 40%.
Financed by grants, the program is manned by volunteers and services are rendered free of charge.   Since its inception, two other communities have developed their own Community Care Networks.

Annual AAUW Book Sale, continued.   At the Book Sale Cheryl P. helped people register to vote in the coming election.
