Time Heals All Wounds

By Daniel Martin Cheuka

They say time heals all wounds
but the pain runs too deep
They call me courageous
but it's only myself I have to keep
Society's gains are my loss
when I can't pay my way
You say forget my dreams
they don't mean much anyway

They put labels on aspirin
saying too much will make you ill
They put labels on food
saying please don't overfill
But one thing I will never understand
no matter how hard I try
is the label they put on me
saying I'm not a "normal" guy

For I have a heart
pumping blood every day
and I have a tongue
that speaks the words I say
But if that tongue is silenced
there will be many to mourn
For I will not have succeeded
and my plight will not be bourne

Next time you see me on the street
just trying to stagger by
Please don't turn and walk away
just stop and say "hi"
For God has put me on this earth
just like even you
And if you would even know me, who knows
we could become friends too.
