Linda Hanson, Owner:
Horizon Gymnastics Center is owned and directed by
Linda Hanson, who has over 40 years of experience in the sport of gymnastics. "Miss Linda", as
she is known in the
gym, started her gymnastics education as a 5-year old
student with Sokol USA,
a fraternal gymnastics organization which has its roots
in Europe. She
received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Valparaiso
University in 1972
after which she taught for 4 years at the high school
level in Indianapolis
and Valparaiso. After completing stints as Gymnastics
Director at both the
Valparaiso YMCA and Duneland Area YMCA, Linda opened
Horizon Gymnastics in
1994.
Currently, Linda is a USAG Professional Member and
certified as a Skill
Evaluator, Meet Director, Level I PDP Accreditor, Level
I KAT, PDP Level II
Coach, and lifetime coach for Special Olympics. She
maintains up-to-date
National Safety Certification and is Red Cross
CPR/First Aid certified. In
addition to coaching and directing duties, Linda also
is a gymnastics judge,
officiating at both High School Association meets and
USAG Junior Olympic
Meets.
Preschool Staff:
Horizon currently employs six to eight preschool instructors who are trained
specifically in preschool gymnastics. Their caring ways and positive
attitudes create a unique teaching style that is very successful. Our
preschool staff maintains several types of certifications including USAG Safety
Certification and the USAG National KAT Accreditation. This additional
training, along with the contagious enthusiasm and innovative teaching ideas
of our staff, has led to the development of a very successful preschool
program.
Kim Preutt, who is our Preschool Director, has taught gymnastics to children for
10 years. She trains the preschool staff and develops special events for our
youngest members.
Competitive Teams Staff:
Eleven coaches train the competitive teams at Horizon. Each coach has training and
experience in the specific area in which they coach. Laura Yoder and Nicole Wilson
coach our All-Star Cheerleading Squads. They teach tumbling, stunts, and choreography
to create competition-ready routines. Barry Pruett and Brad Smeja have coached the Boys'
Gymnastics Teams into a powerhouse program. Barry is also a national ranked Men's Gymnastics
Judge, officiating at meets throughout the Midwest. Seven women coach the Girls' Competitive
Teams. The Level 3 team is coached by Laura Jankowske and Vanessa Hulser. The Level 4 Team
is coached by Julie Maynard, Theresa Kark, and Michelle Gonzalez. Levels 5, 6, and 7 are coached
by Rachel Moore and Kim Tannehill.
Recreational/Progressive Gymnastics Staff:
Nine coaches share the responsibility of teaching our grade school program
which is based on safe progressions of gymnastics skills. Each staff
person is required to be CPR/First Aid certified and many have completed
both Safety Certification and the Level I PDP program.
