LINKS AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Click here to download an INCLUSIVE FAMILY HISTORY (all Hillgartner names I know of, and direct branches of the other families).  The unzipped file is in Gedcom format (.ged)  378 KB in size.
It should be clear that the Hillgartner Family History site is intended mostly to entertain and possibly intrigue.  While I enjoyed doing the research on my family origins, the point of departure was as much to gauge the efficiency of the various search engines available, and the depth of the resources on the web, as any real interest in genealogy.
This project would not have happened without the help of Dr. Ned Benson, who shared his research into the Roemer family of Kesselbach, and steered me into the Londorf Kirchenbucher.  He also pointed me to Bob Hilgartner, who provided the family coat of arms, and to Judith Whorton Henderson, who has maintained an extensive history on RootsWeb.
Much of her information came from Kurt Hillgaertner in Germany, who researched the early family and origins of the name.  I also drew heavily on family charts handed down by generations of Darmstadt Hillgartners to my cousin Doris Weiland.
The Tillotsons have been heavily documented, and I utilized the impressive Internet site put together by Don Tillitson, “The Tillotson Project”.  Also invaluable was the massive site constructed by Paul Lawrence, “Lawrence Genealogy”.  But I could not have linked my people into it without the help of Linda Meyers, who found me via the Calloway County USGenWeb page.
I'm deeply indebted to a number of other serious sites as well, and encourage you to explore them too:

If you enjoyed this site, you might enjoy these as well:
Chez Rosie: Gourmet recipes collected and refined by my mother -- Rosamond Tillotson Hillgartner -- wherever she went.  Some of my favorites from Morocco and Spain.
Bill's Gadgets: My father -- William Lawrence Hillgartner -- was born to tinker.  A self-taught thinker of deep thoughts, his particular passion is the pursuit of wind and solar-driven alternatives to the internal combustion engine.  He has left a hand-crafted sundial, custom-calibrated to the local latitude and longitude,  in every corner of the globe. His efforts entertain the hell out of me; I offer some for all to enjoy as well.
The Jewel Kingdom: My brother Malcolm and his wife Jahnna have written eighty-odd books, mostly for kids and teens. Their series include The Jewel Kingdom, Bad News Ballet, Hart and Soul, and Scared Stiff. They've turned as least one into a video, and churned out a play and a couple of CD-ROM games as well.  This is the site of their publishing and production company.
Tugeye : My brother-in-law Dan is also an engineer (same class at M.I.T., too). The latest cool gadget from Yankee Engineering.
Bosco da Gama-Ted Samsel-Double Distelfink: Cousin Ted is a gonzo Texan and squeezebox addict.
Virtual Tangier : My tribute to the Moroccan “mother of cities” where I grew up.
