Friends Along The Way
I gather sharks teeth along the beach.
I gather friends along life's paths.
I have found thousands of teeth by just looking.
I have thousands of friends by just being there.
If you only look for that perfect tooth,
You miss the thousands waiting along the way.
If you only search for that perfect friend,
You'll lose out on the perfect ones already around.
I find teeth of all sizes, shapes and colors.
Some are very old and some still young.
Friends also vary, young and old,
Large and small, white, black and everything in-between.
I walk different paths along the beach,
Never only once do I walk them.
Each time I walk a path, I find more I missed the time before.
You find friends along each path you take in life,
And each time you take that path, you will find more.
I also find what I call "fool's teeth,",
Similar in sizes, shapes, and colors,
Yet they are not teeth.
They may be brittle and hollow, jagged and sharper,
Yet I pick them up and toss them away.
However, by taking the time to pick them up,
I find true ones close by.
Same as friends, they will not all be true friends,
They will be "fool's friends," if you accept them.
The teeth I find, I find sometimes when I am not really looking.
They may be next to me where I sit or off my normal paths.
They are on the surface, no hard looking required.
Persons next to you, wherever you may be,
Take the time to find out who they are;
They may become new friends.
Go off your beaten paths; see what you find.
Open up to what is around you; no need to search.
As I collect my teeth, they would fill up their jar.
I would get a bigger jar, then one bigger.
Never thinking I had enough or too many.
Now I have one jar, large enough to last my lifetime.
As with friends, as your heart fills,
Open it up a little more to fit more in.
The more you open yourself to friends,
Your heart will expand to handle all.
Never think you have enough friends or too many.
Every day you walk along your paths,
Knowing your friendships will increase.
You will always meet friends along the way.
