Questions and Answers

Ok, I said I would list the questions I get from my pages. Here is the first installment.

1. Do you go to sleep with poems forming to be able to write approximately one a day?

Well, I have been know to wake up in the middle of the night, jot down some words and go back to sleep.

2. Do you have any of the original poems you first wrote?

All the poems I ever wrote before the 1970's I never kept. But I will place here the first one that I wrote in the 70's that I kept:

Freedom

Freedom of heart, of mind and soul.
The freedom to do without being told.
A life so free and clear of demand,
To do as you wish and not as others command.
Not to have freedom to do as you wish,
You are pinned between rocks of a fountain dish.
Freedom, something we all deserve,
The joy to be free we must all preserve.
Walk the beaches of life in the clear,
No one should command us or lead us by the ear.
Life is for freedom of your own body and mind,
Believing you are free is for all of mankind.
Free to let the sun shine on your life,
Letting the wind swiftly blow away your strife.
Know what your freedom can mean,
We must all go preserve and plant the freedom bean….

3. What kept you writing even without the encouragement?

Well, for years I never really wanted to write, then one day I decided to write just for me, never to be shared. Different things came into mind that I would write about. Then this past New Years, I had a close call which got my mind really full of words. So now when ever the urge hits, I write the words down.

4. How do you do poems on request? (Do they give you information?)

When someone asks me to do a particular poem, either by subject or by title, I just start writing, sometimes if it is about or for someone, I ask for a few basics, then go from there.

5. Where and how did you get to be called GravyDave?

Funny you should ask, that name got coined on me when I first started working for the shipyard. Seemed like all the jobs I was given at first were the easy gravy jobs, so one of my bosses gave me that name and it has stayed ever since. So I decided to write under that name also.

6. Are you married?

Yes and no, Legally yes but we have been seperated almost 4 years and are still best of friends. We met young, dated young and spent 24 years together after dating almost 3years.

7. Do you have any human kids?

No

8. Do you enjoy reading other peoples poems?

Yes I do. Other peoples words do tend to inspire me.

9. Do you have a favorite writer of poetry?

No, I like some of a lot of different writers but not all of any of them. Also, after I read works from famous authors I feel so inadiquate in my writting.

10. How did you first get your poems online?

By accident, I happened to mention to a friend who has pages online with poems that I enjoyed her pages and that I also dabbled in poetry. She asked to see a couple and after readiig them asked if i was planning to do a web site with my poems and I told her no. Well she asked if she could use a couple on her pages and I told her ok, go for it. Well she did and because of all the interest I decided to go ahead and do a web site also. She still has my poems on her pages and still asks for more. She goes by CoCo, I know her as Carrie, a very sweet Lady. You can thank her for getting me started online. Thank you Carrie!!!
