FOTD -- May 11, 2009   (No Rating)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's nearly unbearably slow image shows what happens to an order-11 minibrot when it mixes with the quadratic stuff deep in Seahorse Valley of the Mandelbrot set.   I spent several minutes simply observing the curious blending of different orders of fractal material.

Unfortunately, I never got around to rating the image, though it appears worthy of about a 6.   IMO, the colors are a bit too pale and pastel-ish, but in the world of fractals, one person's paleness is another person's perfection.

The name "Valley of the Shadow" is not nearly as ominous as it sounds.   The image is actually quite bright and cheery.

The calculation time is by far the most troublesome aspect of the image.   The problem here is the unusually high iteration count of the elements in the image, most of which have an iteration count well above 5,000.

The image may be viewed at leisure on the FOTD web site at:
Sunday turned out to be a very pleasant day here at New Fractal Central, with a blue sky filled with puffy white clouds, and a cat-pleasing temperature of 68F 20C.   True, the wind got a little gusty at times, but the warm sun soon erased any chill.

My day was average.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and be at peace.
