FOTD -- April 12, 2009   (Rating 6.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The very deep parts of the Mandelbrot set have barely been touched.   In fact, every time a new scene such as today's is discovered, another infinity of undiscovered scenes opens up.

Today's image shows a minibrot deep in the East Valley area of another minibrot.   This larger minibrot lies on a side filament extending from the period-6 bud on the northeast shore line of the main bay of the Mandelbrot set.

I named the image "Lest We Re-Iterate".   Due to a mental lapse, I exited the program without saving the finished image, and had to retrieve the partially finished version that had automatically been saved earlier and resume the calculation from there.   The showness of the image made the oversight even worse, and I decided to memorialize my mistake by naming the image after it.

The rating of a 6-1/2 includes 1/2 point bonus for my coloring.   I leave it to the viewer to decide whether the coloring is worth it.   The calculation time of almost 45 minutes may be avoided by going electronically to the FOTD web site at:and viewing the finished image there.

Saturday started dull, dreary and wet here at Fractal Central, with a temperature of 46F 8C.   It looked like another bad day coming up for the fractal cats, but the clouds suddenly broke at 1:00pm, just in time to flood the cats' shelf with sunlight and raise the outside temperature to 55F 13C.   The rest of the afternoon was near perfect.

My day was uneventful.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and be confident that all is well.
