Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- March 31, 2009   (Rating 6)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image is a harmless scene in the Z5+C Mandeloid, which of course is its parent fractal.   Z5 is about as high as one can go and still expect variety.   Beyond this point a boring flowery sameness creeps in, which continues, I suppose, all the way to infinity.

Today's image clearly shows the progression of the series 5,25,125... as the four-lobed minibrot is approached.   The image is located on the shore line of the northeast lobe of its parent.

I named the image "Pentagram Pannikin" for reasons known only to myself.   I think a pannikin is a small cup, though I would never bet anything on it.   The rating of a 6 could be a bit liberal.   After all, it's only a quintic minibrot.   But to avoid bringing politics into fractals, let's call a rating of 6 a consensus.

The calculation time of just over 2 minutes makes calculation a pleasure.   Those who wish to avoid being overwhelmed by pleasure may view the completed image on the FOTD web site at:
There is no formula included in the parameter file because the image uses the type=manzpower formula hard-coded into Fractint.

Too many clouds, too little sun and a temperature of only 46F 8C kept the fractal cats on the sullen side here at Fractal Central on Monday, while too much work and too little time kept me sullen.   But in the end the fractals prevailed and today's image appeared almost from nowhere.

With any luck, the same thing will happen again in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and beware of the cornflicker jumping caterpillar.   It could devastate the corn crop.
