FOTD -- March 18, 2009   (Rating 7.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Warm fuzzy feelings are what one gets when they go to a benefit concert to help the victims of some disaster, where the producers get a bundle of money, the attendees hear some acceptable music and the victims get little or nothing.

Today's image has a kind of warm-fuzzy feeling about it.   This was all the reason I needed to name it "The Warm Fuzzies".   The rating of a 7.5 includes a 1/2 point bonus for my semi-expert coloring.   (The fuzzy appearance was not all that easy to bring about.)

The parent fractal is a Mandelbrot set surrounded by superfluous rings of fractal stuff, which increase in number as the set is approached.   Today's scene is found in one of these rings in the north branch of Seahorse Valley of the parent.   The tiny value of the real(p2) parameter is very critical.   The bailout radius of 4, set by the imag(p2) parameter of -12, is also critical.

The calculation will take all of 30 seconds on a SOTA computer.   On an older unit it will take only a couple minutes.   But all calculating cares may be dispensed with by going to the FOTD web site at:and viewing the finished image there.

Lots of warm sun, a temperature of 59F 15C and a gentle south wind made the fractal cats very happy here at Fractal Central on Tuesday.   Work that was well under control made me very happy.   FL was happy because I agreed that we would go antiquing this Saturday as long as we avoid places selling the non-antique, phony-country, warm-fuzzy, feel-good stuff known as 'primitives'.

The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours, which should keep the fractal fans happy.   Until then, take care, laugh often, live long, and eat hearty.
