FOTD -- February 15, 2009   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

The name of today's image is "Be My Valenfractal".   Yes, I realize that Valentine's Day was yesterday, but I am writing this Yesterday, so it really is, or was, Valentine's Day.

I haven't the slightest idea what a valenfractal is, and a glance at today's image will be of no help in solving the mystery.   But the image is one of those that calculates faster than light and therefore finishes before it starts.

The image is located on the main stem of its parent, which is just starting to morph from an order-13 Mandeloid into an oversized Mandelbrot set.   The many minibrots in the image are still of order-13, with 12 lobes, but don't ask what the minibrots with 25 lobes are doing in the image.   All I can say is that fractals are very mysterious.

I rated the image at an average 7.   As I said above, the 4-second image finishes before it starts, so don't forget to start the calculation when the image appears already finished on your screen.   Failure to follow these instructions will set off an unstable feedback in time, which will result in the destruction of the universe.

To avoid all such apocalyptic dangers, hurry to the FOTD web site at:and view the completed image there.

Actually, the image is a rather pleasant one, with the overall pattern repeating itself at ever smaller scales all the way to infinitesimal infinity.

Valentine's Day brought very real flurries of snow to Fractal Central, while the temperature of 37C 3C made sure the snow melted as fast as it fell.   The lack of sun brought dissatisfaction to the fractal cats, while the reasonably quiet day brought peace to the rest of us.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and stand out above the crowd.
