FOTD -- January 31, 2009   (Rating 7.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image lies in the parent fractal that resulted when I combined various negative portions of Z^(-2.1) and Z^(-9.2), then added (1/C).   This parent fractal consists of a few large circular bays with a small satellite figure-8 shaped lake some distance to the east.   The scene of today's image lies in a valley of this figure-8 thing.

The general area has both critical and non-critical elements, so when I first checked it, I had little hope of finding an intact minibrot.   I expected only dry valleys, but I stumbled upon the tiny minibrot at the center of the image almost by accident.

To express my surprise, I named the image "Leaping Iterations", and then I gave it a rating of a 7-1/2, including a half-point reward for my coloring work.

I would have preferred a shorter calculation time than 6-1/2 minutes, but this short wait may be avoided by hurrying out to the FOTD web site at:and viewing the finished image there.

Partly cloudy skies with occasional heavy snow squalls highlighted the weather here at Fractal Central on Friday.   The fractal cats must not have considered such conditions a highlight, for they spent most of the day near the heat.   My day was once again unacceptably busy.

The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and whatever it is, it's all in the mind.
