FOTD -- January 09, 2009   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Due to the continuing rush here at FC, the image that was intended to be the FOTD for January 8 now appears as the FOTD for January 9.   There will be no FOTD for January 8.

The image is actually a study in the hidden patterns brought out by the broad color palette.   When a color palette with narrow bands is applied to the image, the pattern totally vanishes.

I named the image "Square Rectangles" because of the obvious square surrounding the central minibrot and the curious rectangles that lie at the corners of the square.   These rectangles are of the same family as the ones in the Julia set of the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid, with a C value of -1.7435,0.

I rated the image at a 7 when I found nothing in it worth more.

The calculation time of under 4 minutes will pass like lightning for true fractalists.   The trip to view the finished image on the FOTD web site at:will pass like lightning for those true fractalists frustrated by DOS-challenged machines.

Partly cloudy skies, brisk winds, flurries of snow, a maximum temperature of freezing and a forecast of heavy snow on Saturday made for a day of variable contentment for the fractal cats here at Fractal Central on Thursday.   My day was very busy.   Luckily, I have developed an instinct for fractals that enables me to find them with almost no effort.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and don't ask questions whose answers raise more unanswered questions.
