FOTD -- December 29, 2008   (Rating 7.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's parent fractal is a virtually perfect Mandelbrot set.   But virtual is not identical to literal, and in today's case, the difference lies along the main spike, which when examined very closely turns out to be infinitely divided.   Today's scene lies deep in the East Valley of the large minibrot on the main spike of the parent fractal, at the edge of the northernmost division of the spike.

I gave the image the rather poetic name "Dawn of the Stars", referring to the stars in the sky, and not the stars on TV.   I rated it at 7.5, which seems about right.   The calculation time of 9-1/2 minutes is a bit slow, but nothing that a dedicated fractalist cannot handle.

But even dedicated fractalists sometimes need to save time, so the finished image is posted for instant viewing on the FOTD web site at:
Morning clouds gave way to afternoon sun and a temperature of 55F 13C here at Fractal Central on Sunday.   The fractal cats enjoyed the sun and endured the rest.   My day was busier than expected.   The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and the only thing certainly real is experience itself, not the images we experience. . . . I guess.
