FOTD -- December 28, 2008   (Rating 8)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's image is late because I let myself get dragged to an antique mall again on Saturday, where FL and I spent the afternoon looking at the stuff other people had the sense to throw out.   Oh well, it wasn't all that bad, but it cut short the time available for the fractal search, and FL found a fresh supply of mystery novels.

Despite the limited fractal time, I found a rather interesting image, which lies in the parent fractal that results when a Z2 Mandelbrot set is starting to morph into a Z^(-16) Mandeloid.   This parent is basically a Mandelbrot set inside an embryonic Z^(-16) Mandeloid, with 17 points and a series of fractal rings circling the M-set.   Today's scene is located in a filamentary fractal bridge between two of these rings.

The whole image is unique enough to rate an 8.   The name "Web of Misfortune" might have been inspired by the half-dozen or so mystery novels we found.   The calculation time of a fireball-fast 38 seconds is what the impatient fractalist likes to see.

As always, those with machines that are fully tricked out yet can't do DOS may see the finished image on the FOTD web site at:
But due to the unusual time of this posting, give Paul a chance to calculate and post the image before surfing there.

Heavy clouds and fog prevailed in the Fractal Central area on Saturday.   The temperature reached a mild 41F 5C, but the fractal cats must have been disappointed by our absence, for they gave us a lively scolding when we returned.

The next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and if women hate violence, why do they read so many murder mysteries?
