Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- December 21, 2008   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today's curious image lies in the parent fractal that results when 4 negative parts of Z^(-1.3) are mixed with 0.8 negative part of Z^(-7.6) and (1/C) is added.   This parent fractal is the usual multi-bayed thing with the usual prominent 'fan' extending east from the origin.   There is a very large minibrot near the eastern edge of this fan, though today's scene lies in a bit of debris inside the fan rather than in the minibrot.

I named the image "Groundhog Haven".   There is no logical reason for such a name.   I apparently have no control over the phrases that come into my head when I am searching for a name.   The rating of a seven seems about right for the image, which is only mildly great.

The calculation time is downright great however.   The 44 seconds is almost as fast as Nicholas finishes tuna and cheddar treats.   An equally great way to see the image is to surf out to the FOTD web site at:and study it there, gasping in awe and wonder.

Despite ample afternoon sun, the outside temperature of 23F -5C kept the windows too drafty for the comfort of the fractal cats here at Fractal Central on Saturday.   They decided to spend the day near the heat.   My day was moderately busy doing last minute things of the season with FL.   The next FOTD will be ready in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and make your fractals elegant, not elephant.
