FOTD -- December 06, 2008   (Rating 6.5)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Sorry about the lack of a fractal for December 5, but I had no time to find one.

Today's image is named "Three-Four-Five".   The name refers to the five arms in the image that converge on the minibrot.   Only three of these arms come from outside the frame.   The other two seemingly originate from nowhere within the image.   This explains the three and five in the name.   The four refers to the number of broad spiral loops around the minibrot.   True, there is a fifth spiral, but it is so small as to be easily overlooked.

The rating of a 6-1/2 seems about right.   It includes a half-point reward for the 10 minutes or so I put into smoothing the colors.

The calculation time of 3-1/2 minutes could be faster; it also could be slower.   The way to totally avoid the hassle of calculation is to view the completed image on the FOTD web site at:
Sunless skies here at Fractal Central on Friday made for cheerless fractal cats, while the temperature of freezing kept the unhappy duo close by the radiator.   A small spat developed when Nicholas tried to dislodge Cassie from the warmest spot, but when Cassie uttered some un-lady-like cat words and refused to yield, Nicholas went off to sulk in the laundry basket.

My day was unusually busy, but nothing to cause a sweat.   The next FOTD is due to be posted in 24 hours.   Until then, take care, and it's all a plot of the aliens from Sirius 3.
